so today was just a horrible day. Like, I really dont think it could have been worse. We started off the day riding these stupid big elephants through this national park with all these waterfalls and rivers. They were so annoying when the big elephants would love on you and want to play. They even did this dumb show where I got a massage from an elephant. So stupid and not cool. I mean, you are so lucky sitting at a desk working 9-5, or fish wrangling, or just spending your time doing nothing. Honestly though, even though almost all of us collasped from heat and we all have hundreds of bites from huge unknown bugs, our lives are 20x better than yours.
We rode elephants for a while, it was sooooooooooooo great. My elephant was named Mao Poon and she was 45 years old so she was a little lethargic to say the least. It was really so incredible. I didnt think anythign could beat tiger day but this was way better. After the ride we all watched show. These elephants are incredibly smart.. they played basketball, soccer, dance and played musical instruments, painted, stood on 2 legs and did tricks and even gave me a massage! I have a great video of it. It was so cute because the elephant kept moving the sticks out from around me so i woudl be comfortable laying on the ground, and she would jsut give them to me and then lay them on my back. I found out I can buy an elephant for around 400-500,000 thai baht. Which is around 14,000 american dollars. They live to be around 80. So much better of an investment than cars, so get ready guys, im buying an elephant!!
After that we had a bamboo raft ride along the park. It was not enjoyable at all since we got the raft that had bugs the size of me with crazy fangs and shit. I swear they were eveyrwhere and the whole ride we were screaming and avoiding getting attacked. I dont know how we didnt flip the boat. You can say im a wimp but I guarantee if you saw these things you'd do the same thing. We also had about 1000000 fire ants whic hwere biting the shit out of me.
We then had lunch at an orchid farm thing. It was beautiful.. After that another long bus ride where we went to all the tribes on the border of Thailand and Burma. It was so crazy to see the way these people live. We stopped by and saw the long neck tribe. They put these huge brass rings around the neck to protect them from spiritual tigers biting their necks. Its bizare that they still do it, even kids starting at age 5 wear them and they slowly add more rings to stretch out the necks. It actually seperates the crap in their neck so if they were to ever take them off they would die because their neck would just collaspe and break. Those rings are around 20-30 pounds too. I just dont get it. The men, of course, dont wear them. We bought some stuff from the tribes because thats the only way they make money and its actually really cool stuff..
after that we did the normal hotel thing and went to the night market. I spent way too much money but got so much freakign stuff. There is no way im going to fit everything in my bags on the way home.
Everyone is still doing good except Campbell and Erin are sick. Not sure with what but its kind of odd but I wont get into that on here..........I really like everyone on this trip except 1, who is so obnoxious I want to rip my ears off so i dont have to hear her. everyone on the trip feels that way about her but she thinks she is the shit. Other than that everything is still great. I am soooooooooooo sick of Thai food..Its the same damn thing everyday. The next couple of days may have to be mcdonald days.

I really dont know what day it is- Route to Chang Mai
Last night was awesome. We all got a police escort bike ride where we sat in little coach seats on the back of a bike. I think everyone thought we were famous because the police made such a big deal about it. It was really fun. We stopped along the way to a road side booth where....I ate a fried SCORPION. It actually really wasnt that bad. I wouldnt do it again, but worth trying. They had all sorts of bugs and I tried them all. The maggot thing almost made me throw up. After that we went to this other food place where they throw a morning glory, which is a veggie plate, from the grill to about 10 ft away. They made us all wear these ridiculous outfits and dance before we caught it. It was so funny. Andrew had an incredible bike car thing that was completely devoted to Elvis. It played elvis music the whole time and he had to wear a cowboy hat and stuff. It was hilarious.
Today was kind of boring as we were in a bus all day to Chang Mai, which is the northern hill part of Thailand. We stopped along the way at a national park and rode bikes around for an hour. It was so beautiful (have I said that yet?). The bus rides are actually pretty fun because me and katie always sit next to Garrett, Biddy, and Bruce who are hte funniest people I have ever met. I havenever laughed so hard or gotten such a work out from it.
Before getting to the hotel we stopped a couple awesome shops and i spent alot of money. I was then explained that the reason I am still single is because I like tigers. Tigers are a thai symbol for power, strength and protection which scares off the men I meet. awesome.
I got another thai massage for $10 tonight. These things are just life changing.
Tonight is an early night because we wake up early to RIDE ELEPHANTS all day around another national park. Jealous yet?
Im actually starting to want to get home. Just for sleep, my bed, certain people, and american food. I have another week left and its pretty much all free time on the beach...
Katies blog actually has more about the culture and specific intersting things besides what weve done. I always write this after Im tired that I forget all that stuff. So check it out if you want: viewfromthailand.blogspot.com

Day 6 & 7. Kanchanaburi and travel to Phitsalunrok (spelling is not right)
Yesterday was fantastic(besides hearing about Austin). We had another day in the jungle and started the day off by going to the hellfire pass from world war II. We walked along the area that was bombed and cleared for the Japs to build their railway to europe. It was made by p.o.w.'s and other forced labourers. It was so sad and you never learn history and never get a feel for how powerful it is until you see it with your own eyes. The heat here is ridiculous and its so humid. The rain has only been while we are in the pool or on the bus so that it is working out great. We then went to a national park and road along a raft down the river to the waterfalls. We spent about an hour climbing and jumping off the waterfalls. It was wonderful and so much fun. Garrett has a waterproof camera so we have some great videos and pictures from it. After that we went for a ride along the death railway to get to the next stop which was the only reason I signed up for this trip: The Tiger Temple.
The tiger temple started when a person brought a tiger cub to the temple to the monks after rescuing it from poachers. Everyone hear always takes animals to the Temple for Budha to look after. Once others found out that he succesfully took care of the tiger they started bringing more and it became what it is now. As you should know, I am obsessed with Tigers and to be able to play with adult huge tigers and baby cubs is going to be somethign I will never forget. Most of the tigers are all on chains and you get to walk and pet them and play with them if they are awake. The people say they sleep because its day time but of course they are sedated. It was sad seeing them that way though but as bad as it sounds it was worth it for me. They had a few tigers who were mature enough and nice enough to just walk around. You had to pay more to go this area, and I of course paid. They tell you to sit down and wait for them to come to you. As I sat down one of the biggest ones came to me and just laid down and put his head in my lap. It was so surreal and I just had a moment with this tiger. You're allowed to pet them and rub them like they are a household pet. He laid in my lap for about 5 minutes and even stretched out further and fell asleep. I cannot explain how amazing this was. I have probably about 100 pictures of it so dont worry. Because of that I didnt get to play with the cubs as much but I did see them and run around with them. That one event just completed my life. Once leaving the tiger temple we went back to the hotel. We stopped first and everyone stocked up on beer for the night and we def lived up to it. Our resort is out in the middle of nowhere so once you get there you cant leave. They have tons of stuff though to keep you occupied. Some of the girls made their own zipline thing and it almost cut off their leg.
The night ended wtih everyone almost blackout drunk all playing games and talking in the hotel lobby. This morning was a bad morning for most people because everyone was hungover.
We spent the whole day on the bus today with a few stops. We stopped at the 100year old market which has no tourists and no english so our tour guide made us play a scavenger hunt game where we had to use the Thai weve learned. Ive learned: Hi, Bye, How are you, Im good, Sorry and thank you. So i was useless but I did buy abunch of really cool stuff. We just arrived at our hotel in Phistajlsjdflajdflajd and we leave early tomorrow for chang mai.
I think I have said at least 5 times a day "this would NEVER happen in America" and most of the time I wish it did. This place is just so unbelievable. I cant talk about it enough or fully describe it. We are soo blessed but this place is still paradise. Kong said the average person here makes about 300 baht a day which is about $10. Its unbelievable.
I want to take every plant here back to america and have my own paradise garden at my house. This place has the most beautiful flowers and trees. However they have crazy bugs and reptiles..
There is so many other thoughts Ive thought about lately but I cant remember right now..I may update later..Tonight we are going on a bike ride through the city and eating bugs..

Day 5 but maybe day 3?! I have no idea- Kanchanburi
I just heard the news about Austin Corn so I apologize if this blog is a little depressing and sad. However, its been one of the best days here. I feel guilty for even writing about it.
I want to start off this post with a little ranting. I dont understand people who dont want to travel or who never want to leave America. I can honestly say that I know for a fact that all my travels have made me a better person in so many ways. It puts life and everything in perspective. You never realize how blessed you are and how different things could have been if you were born into a different family or country if you dont go see it with your own eyes. It also makes me realize how ridiculous we are. Everyone here is always always smiling. Our poor people are the rich people here. We are the ones who complain about nothing and freak out over things that really dont matter in life. I cant even explain the way people live here and yet still be so happy. It blows my mind and thats how we all should be. Also no one here lives above their means unlike us.. which is the main reason why we are in the situation we are in now. Another thing that I have been thinking about is how pathetic our government is. The king here is loved 1000000x more than obama or any one in our political system could be. And the reasons why are in the hundreds of all the wonderful things hes done for his country. Our leaders are so greedy and selfish. No wonder the world hates us. Ok enough of that...
Today we left Bangkok and traveled west to the farming area. I climbed a coconut treet all the way to the top which was thrilling and we also went to the floating market. I bargained my brains off for stuff but I still felt like I shouldnt go too far because its only $10 to me and its a ton for them. Im trying to help hte world one dollar at a time now. After the floating market we went to a bunch of world war II stuff. We saw the death railway and tomorrow we get to ride the train down it and learn more about the p.ow. that contributed to it. It was so sad going to the graveyard and seeing all the people who are my age who suffered so much.
We arrived to our hotel...or let me say the most amazing paradise resort eveeeeeer. Complete with an obstical course worthy of RW/RR challenges and exotic pool with waterfalls overlooking the gorgeous hills/moutains in western thailand(we are right on the border of Berma). It has trails and deer parks and everything. Our room is gorgeous. I cant even discribe this place accurately. Right now some Thai lady is singing Alanis Morsette. so bizare. Its so remote out here that I kind of feel like im in a tropical paradise summer camp. They also have great spaghetti and french fries (i know i know but my stomach is sick of Thai food right now). My pictures wont even do this place justice. It is 100% my honeymoon spot!
Tomorrow is going to be an amazing day! Its the tiger day!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :)
Just to keep you jealous: we are all about to go to the pool overlooking the jungle mountains with life sized lizards and monkeys running everywhere while drinking thai beer. Its about 9pm ish here.
Im sure so much has happned that I am failing to write about but my mind is just occupied with austin. Please pray for his family and friends right now and that they find the person that did this. I hope I am back in time for the funeral.

Day 4- Bangkok
So I am writing this right after the best 600baht($18) I have ever spent in my life. So if I appear a little crazy happy this is why: I just got a full body (and by full body, I mean fullll body) thai massage for 2 hours. It was one of the most wonderful things I have ever experienced. I am even going to add it as a requirement on the boyfriend application. That alone was worth the 27 hours of flying and I think I may get one every day. Another reason why you should be jealous..
It rained alot last night towards the end of the night around dinner which was at 830. Everyone in our group got sick off our food. The only thing we all ate was the eggrolls.. Today was very nice. We went to the summer palace of the king and I felt like I was in France. It was very european and gorgeous. Have I mentioned I want to be a Queen yet? That was another reason why. We went to 2 different temples today. One was a ruin and I would compare it to the pompeii of Thailand. It was really fun and unbearably hot. We saw the first live elephants today! All the decoration elephants are all war like and remind me of age of empires- persian war elephants (thats for you chris)... We had lunch on a cruise boat that went through the city. It was nice because everyone sat and talked about everything and we all bonded so well already. I think this group is fantastic. After lunch I went for my 2nd fitting of my dress! Its so beautiful!!
I have decided today that I am going to adopt a Thai girl. She will be 10x more beautiful than your daughters ever will be. So go ahead and prepare yourself. The children here are amazing and so beautiful and sweet. They all have the best smiles. Alot of the things I saw today reminded me of slumdog millionaire. There are alot of kids that run around and sell things and sing and dance and all sorts of things. Its really wierd here because there is no segregation between social classes. The slums are right next door to the rich and everyone gets along fine. The schools have the same uniform so you cant distinquish between rich and poor and they all have barcodes on their uniforms.
We leave tomorrow for chiangmai and thats when we start all our fun jungle stuff! I am so ready to leave the city for the jungle. I like the city but the traffic is bad and its just a typical big city.
Ive already seen so many crazy things like HUGE water monitor lizard things that could probably eat me whole and they are everywhere!
I will finish today with a discussion about our adorable little tour guide named KONG!!!! I think he is actually Loyd from Entourage during his off-air time. He is great and so little and so cute and so smart! We also have another tour guide named Vit who helps too. They both speak amazing english (most people here speak it very well) and I love the way Kong says "EF". They have been trying to teach us how to speak thai but they informed us that almost every word has 8 different meanings depending on the pitch and tone you say it. I dont even try anymore because everytime I say hello or thank you people laugh. Im probably telling them I want to ride their grandmother or something.
I dont know if I will have internet access tomorrow at that hotel or if I will even have time to write. I hear they have a zip line through the jungle outside the back door. I have a feeling all of us will be occupied with that during our free time. That and my attempt to steal a tiger!
Dad, I know you want an ugly from here and trust me they are full of them so mom prepare yourself... love yall!

Day 1-3 which has kinda been one day...
So I arrived safe and sound at about 11pm Bangkok time which was 11am on Thursday Nashville time. Overall I was flying for about 27 hours. The longest flight was 14 hours from Washington, D.C. to Tokyo. Those Jappanese are freaking out about this swine flu stuff. They all had masks on the whole flight and we all had to be scanned and checked before we got off the plane once in Tokyo. We sat there for an hour and half and then I was forced to wear a damn mask until my next flight to Bangkok. I took it off once and got yelled at. It was definitely an experience.
Me and Katie got put on two different flights so I had to sit next to very interesting people. First flight I sat next to Jafar, seriously, if you could make Jafar into a real person he was it. Next flight was this nice little jappanese girl(yes, wearing a mask) who was a student at University of Kansas. The next (and worse flight) was from Tokyo to Bangkok. It took about 7 hours and it was miserable. The plane was huge but old and cramped. At first I had 3 open seats but then some dumb couple complained that the person they were sitting next to was coughing and hence giving them the swine flu so they moved them next to me.
Everyone on our trip got their luggage except Katie. Poor thing, her first international trip and she didnt get her luggage but its coming in tonight.
Its a 12 hour time difference from Nashville so its about 630 pm here. I have no idea what day it is or how much sleep Ive gotten. I am so confused but not as jet lagged as I thought I'd be.
Our group is about 30 people who all seem really fun. There are only about 5 boys on the whole trip and I think every girl is pretty so they lucked out for sure. Our hotel here in Bangkok is really nice and huge. We are on the 28th floor and have an amazing view of the city.
Bangkok is absolutely crazy but so cool at the same time. I am in love with Thailand already and I dont want to leave (sorry mom and dad but we are already talkin about staying an extra week- I'll keep you informed on that).
Today we started out with an amazing breakfast including fried rice, eggs and noodles and all crazy food that I have no idea what it was. Everything is really spicy but I love it. We then went to the Grand Palace which was unbelievable. I want to be a Queen so I can live in places like this. After that we had lunch on a canal with buffet food from all over hte world. After that we went on a boat through the canal and got a view of pretty much every angle of bangkok. Then we went to another Temple. Dont ask me names, I have no idea...We climbed to the top which was honestly the scariest thing I have ever done. The steps were maybe 5 inches wide and about a foot and half apart. I was wearing a skirt to be able to get in and yes of course, the wind got me and i flashed all of thailand... Thanks to Andrew for carefully holding it down for me while I tried not to fall and die. Getting down was the worst and I got a years worth of my exercise in that one trip down.
The weather here is so hot but it rains on and off for about an hour. Its actually nice because it cools it down and its timed perfectly. Its only rained everytime we get on the bus.
We went to a world famous tailor and I bought a dress that was customed made and fit for me. Its absolutely beautiful and made of real Thai silk and its just amazing. It only cost me $200 and there is none like it in the world so it was definitely worth it... Its about dinner time and then party time! I will try to get on this as much as I can to update ya'll...I know yall love to read 3 hour explanations on this thing and this has really just been a pretty basic day. So prepare yourself for future posts. All the crazy and exciting stuff is coming up in the next couple days. I will also try to add some of my pictures on here as well.
*Some cool crap about Thailand thus far:
-all the markets are separated into a certain craft or food type or something. So at one point you have about 100 booths all selling the same thing. Its very interesting and I dont see how they all can survive. Id just go to the first one and then leave. location location location
-Ive learned alot of very interesting things about Thai history but I wont bore you on htat yet..
-There are pictures of the king on absolutely everything. They are obsessed. Another reason why I want to be a Queen :)
-All this protesting stuff on our news is ridiculous. There is nothing here at all about that...
I love yall and miss yall!!
